Per the previous post, the above is the LORD speaking of opening the eyes of those who’ve received the love He has shined on them, and in this same offering, He willingly exposed Himself to the hate of those who’ve rejected His love. The above verse is John 15:22, from a chapter where earlier He says those who follow His example: showing the same love by removing the cloak of the wicked, freely giving understanding to ignorant, raising them out of darkness; will be hated as He is hated, for His name’s sake.

John 15
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that bears not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples.

19 If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his LORD. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.

In John 15:15 above the LORD describes how His friends have become what He has just before likened to branches attached to the vine: He flowing life into them as a vine flows life into its branches. In this verse, He plainly tells them the life He has given them is in the words the Father gave Him to freely given. He has before this commanded them to do the same, show the same love, and this is what makes them His friends. He contrasts this to those who hate him without a cause, only because He has shown them this love, which has removed the cloak of darkness covering their sin: their corrupt teaching and ignorant ideas. In saying this He quotes words that appear in Psalms 35:19 and 69:4, wherein is precisely described what these haters are doing.

Psalms 35
1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am your salvation.
4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he has hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto you, which delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him?
11 False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.

Psalms 69 [As Jonah I cried out of the hell, and You heard me.]
1 Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.
2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
3 I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.
4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
5 O God, you know my foolishness [which I suffer for the sake of your name]; and my sins [of my youth, which the enemies will not forgive] are not hid from you.
6 Let not them that wait on you, O LORD God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek you be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
7 Because for your sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face.
8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.
9 For the zeal of your house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached you are fallen upon me.

This rejection of the light occurring is the fulfillment of what is meant when later Psalms 69:22 says, “that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.” The Psalms also tells us what covers His face, which is the reproach of the haters, thereby giving us a fuller understanding of the title verse, and of the meaning of Hebrews 13, saying, “13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp [come out from among the corrupt city], bearing his reproach. 14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come [“wherein dwells righteousness” – 2 Peter 3:13]. 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 16 But to do good and to communicate [freely give this word, the love of God as it has been given us – bearing the reproach, the hate, that will come] forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

Hebrews 13
1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels [the messengers of God] unawares.
3 Remember them that are in bonds [yoked with the LORD in His work of loving, as He first loved], as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.
4 Marriage [joining with the LORD in One body] is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers [those who make merchandise of His people] and adulterers [those who have left God for the idol they have put in His place] God will judge.
5 Let your conversation [giving His word, which He has freely given] be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you.
6 So that we may boldly say, The LORD is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

The Hebrews word “hate,” appearing in the Psalms above, is sane’, which is specifically used because of its also meaning enemy. In it, we understand the difference between the friends and enemies of the LORD, both so in their choice to either love or hate in the ways described above.

Here is the Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary definition, which includes its translated forms: Strong’s #8130: sane’ (pronounced saw-nay’) a primitive root; to hate (personally):–enemy, foe, (be) hate(-ful, -r), odious, X utterly.

It is said to be a primitive root, but appears to be a shortened derivative of the word shaneh, meaning sleep, and itself from the word yashen, meaning to be slack or languid. Languid means to lack vigor or energy, showing little spirit or animation. It is describing the sluggard, as discussed in the prior post, from Proverbs 6 where the question is asked, “How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep?” It is only the sleeping whose eyes are closed to the LORD’s presence.

The word sane appears in Psalms 50:17 where it perfectly described the hate of those who to sleep in the darkness. As the LORD says in John 15:23 above, “He that hates me hates my Father also.” This is telling us, those who hate the LORD, make themselves His enemy without any cause, and in doing make themselves the Father’s enemy, for no reason.

3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
