Continuing: Yesterday we looked at Paul’s description in Philippians 2 of the Lord’s coming and mentioned the aspect seen in the word “being,” used in telling of Him coming quietly as God in a humanly comprehendible form. We saw it is explained as our example.
Again, The word “being” in Philippians 2:6 is the Greek word huparcho.
The definition from Strong’s Greek Dictionary: Strong’s #5225: huparcho (pronounced hoop-ar’-kho) from 5259 and 756; to begin under (quietly), i.e. come into existence (be present or at hand); expletively, to exist (as copula or subordinate to an adjective, participle, adverb or preposition, or as an auxiliary to a principal (verb):–after, behave, live.
As we saw (in yesterday’s post) the meaning of coming into being in a lower form and waiting quietly in this state, being at hand but listening into understanding, and then being exalted in the properly ordered way. It is not only the subject of Philippians 2 & 3, but as we saw, is also being similarly defined in the latter parts of 1 Corinthians 15 and Hebrews 12. (See yesterday’s post: Immanuel Now, Civilization God’s Way)
Psalms 131 has a Postscript that is excluded in some Bible translations. In mine it is translated as “A Song of degrees of David.” The Hebrew word translated as “degrees” is ma’alah, meaning elevation, as in the steps in journeying higher.
Psalms 131
1 LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
3 Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.
This is David telling of his quieting self, as he also defines it as not exercising himself in matters beyond his point of understanding, and in doing relates it to being as a child weaned. This is what Paul is saying in Philippians 3 when he tells of leaving things behind and pressing toward the mark, “11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.” These steps are seen in 1 Corinthians 15 as the beginning and end points are defined, after we are told in chapter 13 of it being as if we are children putting away childish things.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

1 Corinthians 13

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profits me nothing.
4 Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity vaunts not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil;

This brings us again to another topic we have previously examined, the importance of silence as it relates to the above. It is the point of our only being able to attentively listen and hear if and when we quiet our self – both internally and externally.
The Hebrew word translated as “quieted” in Psalms 131:2 is damam, the Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary definition follows.
Strong’s #1826: damam (pronounced daw-man’) a prim root (compare 1724, 1820); to be dumb; by implication, to be astonished, to stop; also to perish:–cease, be cut down (off), forbear, hold peace, quiet self, rest, be silent, keep (put to) silence, be (stand) still, tarry, wait.
The same word is translated as “be still” in Isaiah 23:2, and as “shall keep silent” in Amos 5:13. Isaiah 23 speaks against Tyre, in pattern as the false rock that isn’t our Rock (Christ). The spiritual meaning of the chapter is speaking against the false salvation [now preached to all the world], and the leaders [false saviors] who have led [us] into hell. It tells of the oppressed virgin, and of those invading and overrunning, to take captive or destroy, God’s people. It is to be seen as a different aspect of the same context defined in Amos.

1 The burden of Tyre (rock). Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.
2 Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.
3 And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.
4 Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.

6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.
7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.
